Amplyfying Girls And Women‘s Voices In Conservation
Kijani- Eco-Warriors (K.E.W) fondly use the slogan they made “I Am the Expert on the Ground”. In our communities, when you hear the phrase “on the ground” then you know you have struck gold and are indeed interacting with the expert. Kijani Eco Warriors – Environmental clubs/ mini projects are implemented within the schools, with the adolescent girls aged 13- 18 years the leaders who are collectively working with their peers and teachers in raising awareness for a greener community.
In our last Climate Action Summit, we strongly saw the Kijani Eco-warriors, strongly coming out to speak, challenge, and provide solutions to environmental issues around them that they are focusing on making their communities a better space for all.
“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children” Native American Proverb. When we see the young at the very front of the line championing for green communities and for heeding to the call to conserve and preserve the environment, then it is evident that we are playing our role in the climate change agenda. Climate change is the most complex challenge of our time and it requires a concerted, productive effort to tackle and address. Our role at CYFUND Africa is to identify and collaborate with the most vulnerable in society is changing the climate change story, one person, one school at a time.
